You won’t need the Office product activation key, because your office is already associated with your account, so you just need to log in and download office from there. Log in using the account the subscription is associated with 3. Click on ”Services and Subscriptions” at the top of the screen. You should see Office Home and Student on that page, click ”Install” 5. I still think it is ridiculous that pre-installed OEM software needs to be associated with a Microsoft online account. The point is that prior to Office , an online MS account was not needed. I don’t see this direction of Microsoft so much as a piracy control, but as a way to prod people and companies to Office and Microsoft’s online offerings.
Some people and companies are not interested and never will be, so stop forcing us down that road. It seems that everyone is jumping the gun on several points here. I work with a property management company. We order our PC’s from Dell and run scripted installs on each machine to configure for whether it is going to property or corp user. With Office , we were sent a product key card with the new PC in the box.
This key was able to be used on the Office pro that was installed during the scripted installs. No issues and did not have to log into Microsoft to get a key.
Now we are forced into Office Pro and the keys we get now, have to be registered with a Microsoft account and then you can get a key for the product. As we manage over properties, making accounts and then transfer them to the individual property ,would be very cumbersome.
We do not use VL as that would lead into way bigger issues. So I do not understand the abrupt change from to and why no one seems to understand what this is doing to businesses, let alone believe that was installed that way.
Everyone I have talked with has the standard response, “What? You had to register the same way for And it would help ManojDuwady. Just a heads up to those with this issue. Dell is supposedly working on a solution and hope to have it ready by the end of November. I will post once I have more news. Just concluded a call with our Dell rep and a MS rep Its to enable end users to use the online collaboration features of MS Office. Thank you for the link.
There were plenty of suggestions to take away the need for having an account to activate Office , and I up-voted all of them. Maybe more Spiceheads can voice their concern through that link. I’m going through this now. So of course I have to call Dell to deal with the situation. Screw this. I’m done. I’m just going to RMA the damn thing along with the other two that just arrived. There’s no point in using Dell products or being a Premier partner if the product and services are going to suck as badly as they do lately.
If Microsoft had even the smallest amount of concern for what end users or small companies want they’d have never changed their system to require a Microsoft account to activate Office All the online petitions in the world aren’t going to have any affect on their behavior.
Edit: total hold time including 2 disconnects before I got to the ProSupport gentleman was 65 minutes. Issue still not resolved as we were disconnected a 3rd time. Disconnect problem isn’t on my end, I have the proverbial 4 bars. I ordered two Dell Latitude E laptops. They were shipped November 1st. One of the two licenses was activated on that day and the other one a couple of days later. If you find yourself with a stolen license you may want to first call Microsoft because Dell is not allowed to tell you the email address it was used with and the date it was activated.
Once you have this information from Microsoft ask their tech for a Transaction ID. You can then call Dell, give them the transaction ID and the email address of the person that stole the code and they will start the process of getting a new code sent to you.
Unfortunately you will then have to wait a few days for them to process your request and mail a new key code. I just went through this entire mess. So now I have to go through the hassle of having Dell send me a new key and hope that one wasn’t hijacked either.
Apparently the people that put these keys in the laptops at shipping time are taking copies of them, activating under bogus MS accounts and selling them. It’s not just Dell. It’s happening with all companies that sell OEM office and insert the little cards in the packing. What a nightmare. I guess it was happening prior to Office only no one knew it because you didn’t have to associate the key with a MS account. Now you do. What do you do when you setup multiple computers in one day and have to choose between 6 different install files that were all installed on a specific date.
How do you know which one to choose. Next year if I need to reload one of these computers, how am I going to be able to tell that i need the file that i installed on “x” date and i need the 3rd one that I installed on that date.
All the website tells you is the date of install, it should show you the number as well. I agree. I have only started, have 3 done, and it already looks like it is going to be a big headache. Wish there was some way of differentiating them.
Dealing with this right now, at a client trying to set up a Latitude E with Office Pro and it’s telling me the product key has already been registered to some Hotmail account. Been on the phone with MS for a half hour, on hold right now being transferred to a fourth different department. They have no idea what to do to resolve this.
This is unbelievable and unacceptable. We’ve stopped purchasing Office from Dell. Getting it from the Microsoft store now. Pain in the ass to have to add a step to each purchase but we haven’t had any problems with their keys. We are a Dell partner so I had a chat with our rep late in the day yesterday. He’s a great guy, been wonderful to work with and this isn’t his fault but the reason behind this mess is mind-boggling So instead of resetting the product keys as soon as an item is returned Dell is waiting to see if anyone re-purchases that used product key and will then resolve it after the fact.
I have been dealing with microsoft and dell for a week trying to get this same situation resolved with no success. Although they will not say as much I believe that they got hacked. I got my codes from Dell, but it could have been Dell or Microsoft that got hacked. Two out of three of the codes were already enabled and in use by someone with a Chinese email address. All this effort to prevent piracy with product activation that impedes legit users and still pirates making off with thousands of activations Brand Representative for My Choice Software.
